Edinburgh Brass Band has been performing at Saughton Gardens Bandstand for the last few summers, putting the beautiful Victorian ironwork to exactly the use it was built for. This year, we're delighted that some of our friends are joining us — four local community bands taking to the bandstand on consecutive Sunday afternoons for a series of free outdoor concerts in the beautiful surroundings of Saughton Gardens.
Whether you're out for a Sunday stroll, enjoying the gardens with family, or just looking for a lovely way to spend an afternoon, come and soak up some live music in the sunshine. It's completely free — no tickets, no fuss, just great brass band music as it was meant to be heard.
Sundays 1pm–3pm · Saughton Gardens Bandstand
17th May - Penicuik Silver Band
24th May - Edinburgh University Brass Band
31st May - Queensferry Community Brass Band
7th June - Edinburgh Brass Band
All four bands are giving their time and music for free, so the best way to say thank you is simply to come along, bring some friends, and enjoy the afternoon.
One of the oldest continuously active brass bands in Scotland, Penicuik Silver Band has been making music since 1835 — making them nearly two centuries young. The band has deep roots in the Midlothian town of Penicuik, just ten miles south of Edinburgh, and has been a cornerstone of the local community ever since.
Founded in 2005, EUBB holds the proud distinction of being Scotland's only university brass band. Now into their third decade of banding, they celebrated their 20th anniversary last year with a special concert at Surgeon's Hall. They're in the middle of their preparations for this summer's Whit Friday marches, and we're very glad they're able to stop off at Saughton before they go.
Based in South Queensferry on the banks of the Forth, Queensferry Community Brass Band grew from a school brass band formed in the 1970s. While the band have a strong contesting history, they're also a well-loved fixture at local events including the famous Ferry Fair and the Queensferry Christmas Pageant.
Edinburgh Brass Band round things off on the final Sunday. Founded in 2011 as a new community band for Edinburgh's city centre, EBB has grown into a well-known and much-loved part of Edinburgh's musical landscape. The band love bringing the joy of live brass music to audiences across the city — whether it's in concerts, parks, or the historic Saughton Gardens Bandstand!
Bandstand Brass takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Saughton Gardens. We'd like to say a big thank you to the Friends of Saughton Park for everything they do to keep the gardens looking so wonderful — we couldn't ask for a better setting.
